A seasonal migratory cod caught in northern Norway when it swims from the Barents Sea to the Lofoten coast to spawn. Prized for its firm flesh and clean flavor, skrei is considered a winter delicacy in Norway. The name comes from Norwegian skrei, meaning “the wanderer.”
